Consultant Psychiatrist – Assertive Outreach Service (AOS)

We are excited to welcome applications for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist in our Assertive Outreach Service (AOS).

The AOS Team is intended for patients with severe and enduring mental illness. These patients are often difficult to engage and so you as consultant in the service will take a lead role in providing motivation, clinical leadership and support to the Inpatient and Community MDT. You will also use these expert skills to facilitate successful partnership working with external agencies.

As an experienced clinician, you will be able to offer comprehensive psychiatric assessments with ease, ensuring that only the best support is in place for patients under your care. As a senior doctor you will be at the forefront of decision making for service provision and development, supporting the Speciality Grade Doctor within the team. You will have the skills and knowledge to supervise the foundation, GP and psychiatry trainees assigned to the department (you will receive protected time to do this) and you will also have the drive to take part in psychiatric teaching and in academic meetings.

Employing only 52 senior grade doctors, LSW has a unique ability to provide doctors with job plans that are exclusively tailored to suit successful applicants. As a senior doctor, you will take an active awareness in LSW management, sharing advice and contributing to senior meetings as appropriate. With a robust Clinical Leadership Management structure, doctors are supported and encouraged to apply for roles to enhance their growth, be it as an Education or Clinical Supervisor or a member of the Medical Management Team. Doctors are provided with a generous study leave allowance of 33 days over three years. We also encourage participation in the Out of Hours on Call Rota (currently 1 in 14) with appropriate compensatory rest provision. Inclusion in the teaching of trainee doctors is expected and you will receive access to our weekly teaching programme and regular peer group and reflective practice

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice is required, as is entry on the Specialist register.

NHS pension is available for those who are eligible. Pension through other providers is available should the former not apply to you.

Those pursuing CESR are also encouraged to apply, to be considered for a “locum to substantive” transitional position. Our department has a track record of supporting doctors through the CESR process and would welcome the opportunity to support you through it.

The interview date is to be confirmed though likely early January 2022.

The Government has formally announced that it intends to introduce regulations that will require most healthcare workers which includes frontline workers to be fully vaccinated (1st and 2nd dose) against COVID-19 by 1st April 2022. To achieve this the successful applicant must have had their 1st COVID -19 vaccination by 3rd February 2022 to allow for a 2nd dose to be made before 1st April 2022. Therefore, full COVID-19 vaccination will be a condition of employment unless an individual is medically exempt. We will ask for proof of vaccination or exemption during the recruitment process.
