Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

DBS checks will be completed every three years during your employment with the Trust and the cost of these checks will be deducted from your pay and you will be given the opportunity to pay this over three instalments.

Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Crisis Care Service and Eating Disorders Team Alder Hey is at the forefront of new and innovative ways of working in child and adolescent mental health. It is an exciting time to work with us as we continue to transform our services in a region that has great opportunities for families and leisure. The Trust is seeking to appoint a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist to join two well-established multidisciplinary teams in Alder Hey Specialist Mental Health Service – the Eating Disorder Young Peoples Service (EDYS) and the Crisis Care Service. The successful candidate will join a highly regarded clinical service, leading on therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families and providing clinical consultation to a wide range of professional partners. The post holder will be based within our cross directorate services, EDYS and CAMHS Crisis Care Service - these are growing teams both providing highly specialist support and treatment of young people with eating disorders and those in crisis. Both teams hold strong relationships with acute paediatric wards. We offer a range of therapies and multi-modal interventions to help children and young people who have a complex mental health or learning disability requiring intervention from a multi-disciplinary team. Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a one of the biggest paediatric hospitals in Europe. It is also a major centre for undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. The EDYS team is comprised of nurses, psychologists, assistant psychologist, family therapists, dieticians, paediatricians, support workers and consultant psychiatrist. The team has a strong research and development focus as well as providing regular teaching for medical students, speciality trainees (both medics and psychologists), and nursing students. The CAMHS Crisis Care Service provides 24/7 care for children and young people in crisis. A large and passionate team of mental health practitioners of various professional backgrounds is led by a Consultant Psychologist in collaboration with a Consultant Psychiatrist ensuring safe discharge planning and prompt care for those in urgent need. We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, committed and passionate psychiatrist who has the comprehensive knowledge and skills-base needed to work with vulnerable children and families.
