Trainee Sexual Health Nurse Adviser

Devon Sexual Health Exeter service is looking to recruit a Band 5 trainee nurse, who would like to develop a career in sexual health and contraceptive care.

After appropriate training, to include nationally recognised courses and dedicated in-house training and support, the post holder will be required to work flexibly within the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of individualised nursing care to patients attending the service with sexual health needs, HIV infection and for contraception advice and methods.

Devon Sexual Health clinics are currently working via a telephone consultation model, alongside busy face-to-face appointment lists, with all staff working together to meet local and national targets. Regular HIV clinics, led by consultants in collaboration with specialist nursing staff, are also provided. Contraception clinics offer the full range of contraception methods, to include LARCs and emergency contraception, alongside unplanned pregnancy testing, advice and TOP referrals. The nursing team at Devon Sexual Health work in close partnership with medical colleagues and all offer support, enthusiasm and a forward thinking approach to patient care.

This role is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), substantive position and will include working some evenings and weekends on a rotational basis. The clinics are primarily based at the Exeter service. Prior to the pandemic, the service also operated weekly clinics in Exmouth, Tiverton and Okehampton, which staff worked at on a rotational basis; it is expected that these clinics will resume in the next 12 months. Travel for training and to outreach clinics, sometimes in rural locations, is expected; so flexible working and ability to travel independently is essential.

Previous experience in this specialist area is not necessary as this is a training post, however we expect a high number of applications for this role, so any relevant experience or training will be advantageous.
