Eating Disorders Service

The Eating Disorders Service is a well-established secondary service with an excellent international reputation. There is a large outpatient service and an inpatient unit which offers an intensive care programme for weight restoration, including a Day Programme, for patients across the East Midlands region with low weight Anorexia Nervosa.

The Service is currently recruiting for Band 5 nurses, qualified as either an RMN or RN for our inpatient unit at the Glenfield General Hospital Site in north Leicester. Patients referred for inpatient treatment are at a very low weight and have a high degree of physical and psychiatric co-morbidity. Experience of working with patients with eating disorders is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake (but not be limited to):

  • Contribute to the smooth operational running of the ward and to deliver all aspects of the intensive care programme for patients with anorexia nervosa, at various stages of their recovery.
  • Supervise meals, assist patients with meal planning, and providing emotional support with management of weight and eating difficulties.
  • Effectively manage physical and psychiatric risk associated with this patient group.
  • Participate in the provision of group activities in the Day Programme, alongside our Occupational Therapy team that is based in the unit. We facilitate a number of psychological groups such as CBT, Interpersonal effectiveness training, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Body wise to name but a few. We also offer practical interventions such as meal cookery, breakfast group, sandwich making and baking group.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and reliable person, with good interpersonal and team working skills. We are looking to appoint individuals who are willing to develop a range of skills in a challenging yet rewarding role. This includes an ability to hold a boundary; enable patients to resist their eating disorder behaviours and work towards recovery.

We always strive to provide exceptional care to our patients, so are looking for staff who work towards high professional standards and who always act in line with our Trust values of care, compassion, integrity and trust. Successful candidates would be required to work within our multi-disciplinary team, including consultant psychiatrists and therapists.

You will receive exceptional in-service training and supervision.

We operate a 3-shift system covering a 24/7 operation. Successful applicants should be able to work on the rotating pattern, but we may be able to be flexible with the shift pattern on request.

For further information please contact:

Maureen Williams, Ward Manager on 0116 2951474.

We are committed to providing the best care that we can to our patients, and so some of our roles involve a Maths and English assessment. Where this is so, details will be shared with you as part of the recruitment process.

Details of our benefits, pledge and other important information about the application process, and working for us is contained in the documents linked to our advert.

For areas where our teams work to staffing rosters, rosters are set in advance at a team level and you will be joining an established roster. Your rostered shifts will be confirmed to you when arranging your start date. We will consider requests to vary working patterns in line with our flexible working policy.

To make the most of your application, we may consider successful applicants for vacancies for the same post in different locations where this is appropriate and meets our mutual requirements.

For all substantive roles the appointment of every new member of staff (excluding medical and dental staff) to a post is subject to a 6 month probationary period, details of which are in our Probation Policy.

We aim to develop a workforce that reflects our service users. To this end we actively implement equal opportunities in employment and service delivery and seek people who share our commitment. We strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly from underrepresented groups, including members of our black and minority ethnic communities. All jobs will require permission to work in the UK.

For all jobs the cost of undertaking a DBS disclosure at the required level will be met by the individual. This will be deducted from salary following commencement.

Requests from applicants to work alternative hours to those advertised may be considered.

Applicants who are currently ‘at risk’ within the local NHS, and meeting essential criteria will be given preference for interview over any other candidates who may apply for this post.
