Starting salary up to £30,000.00 per annum (pro-rata)

18.75 hours per week to be worked in accordance with the needs of the service

About the Role:

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Counsellor, to support our patients who are living with life limiting conditions and to provide on-going support to their families and carers. As our counsellor you will be responsible:

  • for delivering an efficient and effective bereavement service dedicated to the provisions of high quality support to bereaved families and carers,
  • for managing a caseload of clients including patients and their families/carers
  • for maintaining your knowledge and skills in the field of palliative and bereavement care to inform the service developments in line with professional best practice and research
  • for working flexibly within the policy framework of the Hospice with other professionals and the wide Multi-Disciplinary Team

About you:

You will hold a recognised professional qualification with current registration with the BACP. You will also be able to demonstration a commitment to CPD.

You will have experience of providing support to patients, their families and carers, you will have previous experience of providing bereavement support to children. Your bereavement experiences will ideally have been gained working within the NHS or Hospice or Charity environment.

You ideally will have experience of encouraging teams to challenge the ways of working to improve patient care, whilst maintaining the Hospices values and standards.

You will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbally and written which will enable you to establish professional, effective working relationships with a range of partners including Children, young people, vulnerable adults and children. You be a confident motivated individual who is able to project warmth, empathy and sensitivity when supporting your patients, their families an carers.

You will be an organised individual who is able to prioritise and manage their own workloads whilst working within a highly emotional and flexible environment.

You will have a full current driving licence and use of a vehicle for business purposes as you will be required to visit, patients, their families and carers together with other professionals outside of the Hospice location.
