About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, organised and experienced individual with a special interest in complex respiratory care and long term ventilation. The Long Term Ventilation Team forms one arm of our growing NIV service; which falls under the leadership of national and internationally renowned experts.

You will work as a Ventilation Specialist in a well-established MDT of medics, nurses, AHPs and support staff. This role at Glenfield Hospital is a pivotal part of the tertiary referral centre for complex home ventilation. We are looking for individuals with considerable experience in and skills pertaining to acute ventilation, long term ventilation and tracheostomy care, including complex airway clearance and cough augmentation. You will have a wide knowledge of the conditions that present to a long term ventilation service ranging from respiratory conditions to neuromuscular disease. You will be well supported by an experienced team of Ventilation Specialists to develop in this exciting post.

Your role will be varied and you will care for the most complex of patients who are referred to the service. As such you will work in MDT clinics, your own clinics, as well as visiting patients in their own home and as in-patients. The team has strong links with the local hospices and you will provide expert advice to them, as well as other local hospitals and the inpatient teams in Leicester. You will take on a case management role for the most complex cases and ensure that these patients receive the best possible care, have the appropriate equipment and that their care teams are trained. As such it is essential that you are able to deliver training confidently and have the skills to broach difficult subjects such as future care planning.

You must also have a firm understanding of the governance issues that surround things such as competencies and managing risk. You must have the ability to network effectively with others and have experience in bringing about change and in service development.

You must hold a full drivers licence and have access to a suitable vehicle for work.
