Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

DBS checks will be completed every three years during your employment with the Trust and the cost of these checks will be deducted from your pay and you will be given the opportunity to pay this over three instalments.

Alternatively if you are registered with the DBS Update Service at the same level required for your employment with the Trust there will no requirement to complete a DBS and no further cost applied by the Trust as payment will be made by yourself directly to the DBS Update Service.


The surgical division at Alder Hey is seeking a dynamic and proven leader to join their senior nursing/AHP team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven clinical leader with a strong clinical background within paediatric surgery and experience of managing and leading a diverse range of teams. Strong knowledge of national risk and governance processes is key and the post holder will need to be able to apply and relate national frameworks to every day incidents and risks. They will have wide experience of managing budgets and ensuring that nursing workforce aligns with the needs of the patient demographic; to provide safe and cost effective care for all of the children and young people whom we treat.

The surgical division is a busy and fast paced environment, so the post holder must be adaptive to change and able to make rapid balanced decisions to enable best care for patients and support for staff. They will work closely with the other Head of Nursing and AHP’s within the division and across the medical division to collaboratively manage the flow of patients in line with safe staffing. They will also be responsible for leading and implementing other key divisional projects to tight timescales.

Reporting to the Associate Chief Nurse for Surgery the post holder will also closely with the whole divisional senior management team, and all other teams across the surgical division. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled individual to join the land of remarkable people.
