Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Deputy Chief Finance Officer/Royal Papworth Charity Finance Director
12 months Maternity Cover

Salary - commensurate with the role
£75,914 - £87,754 (plus an additional responsibility allowance of £6,459)

Full time – 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an outstanding finance team and organisation for twelve months to cover maternity leave. Royal Papworth is a state-of-the-art new hospital which sits on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC), alongside some of the world’s most acclaimed medical and education institutions including Cambridge University, Astra Zeneca and Addenbrookes Hospital. The Trust also has offices located in Huntingdon where some of your team will be located and travel to this site will be required.

Directly reporting to the CFO you will play a pivotal role in the leadership of the organisation and lead the finance and commercial functions of the Trust. The role leads the traditional finance functions of financial management, financial planning and strategy, commissioning, and financial accounts. It also plays a lead role in the development and implementation of the trust’s commercial strategy.

As a member of the Trust’s Finance directorate Senior Management Team you will provide professional and efficient financial management and contractual advice to all levels of the organisation including executive Directors, helping to deliver efficiently, effectively and with integrity the goals of the Trust and the directorate.

You will be a CCAB qualified accountant with exceptional communication skills and a proven track record of successfully coordinating large and complex programmes or projects at a senior level. Ideally you will have previous NHS experience and knowledge of the NHSI Compliance regime (although this is not essential) and also hold a desire to work for a forward looking organisation. You will be an influential team player who can use your communicative style to empower, motivate and influence key stakeholders inside and outside the organisation in this exciting and challenging role.

The postholder will also act as the Finance Director for the Royal Papworth Charity. Royal Papworth Hospital Charity exists to raise funds and receive donations for Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in order to sustain the hospital as the UK’s leading centre of excellence for the treatment and diagnosis of cardiothoracic diseases.
