The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance and advice on promoting high quality health, public health and social care.

Our role is to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services. We do this by:

  • Producing evidence-based guidance and advice for health, public health and social care practitioners.
  • Developing quality standards and performance metrics for those providing and commissioning health, public health and social care services;
  • Providing a range of information services for commissioners, practitioners and managers across the spectrum of health and social care.

Role title: Operations manager – Resource allocations

Location: Manchester

We have modern offices in Manchester city centre and Stratford, London. However, we are all working from home at the moment due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please take into consideration that you may be required to commute to one of our offices when we are all allowed to do so again.

The Role:

Reporting to the Associate Director – Planning & Operations, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the operational planning and delivery for the Technology Appraisals and Highly Specialised Technologies programmes in the Centre for Health Technology Evaluation. The Operations Manager will play a key role in managing the allocation of resources to a large and complex portfolio of topics, working with a large team and considering competing priorities to ensure each topic is correctly resourced and can meet required timelines.

What you will bring to NICE:

  • Experience in leading the planning, implementation and application of workforce management tools
  • an effective collaborator who will maintain key relationships and confidently communicate decisions in often high-pressure situations, with effective use of persuading and influencing skills
  • A confident leader who can provide team leadership and management support to team members
  • and the ability to identify opportunities and implement changes to improve the team’s operational effectiveness.

The Department:

The technology appraisals programme advises the NHS and patients on the clinical and cost effectiveness of the technologies reviewed and their optimal position in clinical practice.
