We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The TEWV York Hospital Liaison team are responsible for providing mental health assessment, advice, diagnosis, treatment, risk assessment, risk planning and care planning to patients with complex needs.

Working closely with other professionals in the team, the post holders will work across traditional age barriers to provide a liaison service that is inclusive of all adults aged 18 and over, whilst being supported to develop expert skills in specific areas of liaison. This post will be supported by a clinical team consisting of psychiatrists, Advanced Practitioners, Clinical Liaison Leads and a Specialist Substance Abuse Practitioner as well as a admin worker and team manager. The service operates 7 days a week over 24 hours, therefore unsocial hours, including night duty is an expectation of this post.

The successful candidates will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Learning Disability Nurse and have ENB 998 / C&G 730 or equivalent. Additionally you should have evidence of continual professional learning relevant to the post.

Experience with patients with self harm behaviour, patients in crisis, and skills in CBT and Brief Solution Focused Therapy would be an advantage.

You will require excellent communication skills and be able to work under pressure.

There is support for continual professional development. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established liaison team who have close working relationships with their acute hospital colleagues. In addition to providing complex assessment of need and safety planning for patients and signposting to other services and support. The Liaison team works to promote mental health with the acute hospital accident and emergency department and acute hospital wards to patients with complex mental health needs who may also be requiring physical health care. In addition to clinical work the team provides support, supervision and teaching opportunities to the acute hospital staff.
