General Surgery

Ward 16 and Triage – Leicester Royal Infirmary

Band 5 Full Time and Part Time Posts

Do you want to develop your general surgery skills at the Leicester Royal infirmary. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic band 5 to come and join a fast pace friendly admission ward

All General surgical patient will be moving across to the LRI from the LGH from July 2021 which will be across 4 wards/ Ward 16 will be the admission area so the patients will be quick turnaround patients.

Ward 16 sees a number of patients a day i.e Abscess/ Appendix /Diverticulitis/ Abdo pain and Cancer patients and many more surgical issues. We work closely with a multitude of the MDT and different specialties in the hospital so you will require good communication skills

Ward 16 has a main ward of 30 beds and then a triage area that sees a number of patient a day from GP referral, A& E and other hospitals. In addition we are looking at taking one bay out and making an ambulatory area so patents can go home and then come back in the following day. Have surgery and then be discharged that night to reduce hospital stay

 

As a Band 5 you will gain ward skills and triage skills on the ward you will develop skills with surgical patients, you also gain management skills due to the pace of the ward and the triage are that is based in the ward.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who thrive on the challenges of supporting patients with general surgical illnesses and be able to support and care for theses patients. Also to work on your own initiative, be forward thinking with good prioritization and organizational skills, and a team player.
