Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Anaesthesia

Applications are invited from candidates with suitable training for the post of Fellow in Paediatric Anaesthesia based at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The job is aimed at anaesthetists with FRCA or equivalent and 3 months minimum experience in paediatric anaesthesia.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis.

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust provides integrated paediatric secondary care for Sheffield which has a resident population of just over 500,000, and tertiary services for a population of around 2 million.

This post is for one year, commencing in February 2022.

The successful candidate will join a team of 26 Paediatric Consultants, another Fellow and 7 specialist trainees.

The majority of the work will be based in theatres at SCH, providing anaesthesia for elective and emergency work (see full job description for details of this). The fellow will take part in the trainee on call rota, which complies with the EWTD.

The post is of up to one year duration. 3 months will be dedicated to PICU. One month (pro rata) can be seconded to a cardiac unit for further experience, sessions with Embrace can also be arranged to experience transport of critically ill children and babies around the region.

There are independently staffed Intensive Care and High Dependency Units.

The Pain Service is a well-established, multidisciplinary service. Sheffield Children’s is a designated trauma centre.

In line with other NHS Organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber Region a successful candidate appointed into a post within this Trust will be required to pay the DBS check fee (£45). This is customarily payable over 4 months as a salary deduction once employed by the Trust. If you receive a conditional offer letter, complete your DBS application and later withdraw from the recruitment process, an invoice will be raised via the Trust's finance department to recoup the outlay.
