IT Specialist (Operations and Support)

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country. We provide a full range of services to more than 650,000 people across Portsmouth, South East Hampshire and West Sussex. Most services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes. We handle around 130,000 Emergency Department admissions a year and have the busiest maternity department on the South Coast. The Trust employs around 6,000 staff and is the second largest employer in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Hospitals are looking to recruit an IT Specialist (Operations and Support) to join the IT Operations department. This is a hands-on technical position where you will be operating within the IT Operations and Support team but supporting the wider IT department and Trust staff on a daily basis. The role is a mix of proactive internal project/improvement work and reactive Incident/Event/Problem Management

We’re looking for a team player with experience of server administration, networking, monitoring and escalation handling who is keen to develop their skills and knowledge. Applicants should have a can-do attitude with strong analytical skills and the ability to see things through to completion. Technically, you should have a working knowledge of as many of the following as possible: -

  • VMware vSphere 6.5 / 7.0

  • Windows Server 2008-2016,Core

  • SAN Storage,

  • Cisco networking,

  • Solarwinds Orion,

  • Citrix NetScaler/XenApp/Virtual Apps and Desktops

  • AppSense Environment/Application Manager

  • App-V Packaging and Deployment

The IT Specialist (Operations and Support) will need to demonstrate excellent communications skills and attention to detail to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery. Excellent interpersonal skills are required as well as being both highly motivated and a good team-player, to deliver an efficient, effective customer-focused support service.
