Applications are invited from qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychological Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychotherapists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers to apply for the one-year full-time IAPT post graduate diploma courses based Greater Manchester University. This post is funded by additional national money from NHS England and has been ringfenced to expand IAPT services and is only applicable to staff who have one of the above Core Professions and currently work outside of the current IAPT provision.

You will commence on Band 6 and be expected to take up the first available training place and successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (IAPT). This is a development post and on successfully completing the course you will automatically transfer to a permanent Band 7 Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist post.

The extension to your contract is conditional upon you successfully achieving the IAPT Qualification. Should you be excluded from the IAPT course or fail in part or fail any of the required module(s), allowing for one re-sit only you will be served with the appropriate statutory notice to place you at risk to find alternative employment within the trust in line with your core profession.

 

The posts will be within the Barnsley IAPT Team which is part of the Barnsley Business Delivery Unit of SWYPFT. The post will entail aspects of delivering psychological assessment, formulation and treatment for clients across Primary Care as part of the IAPT programme. It will also include working alongside colleagues in Secondary Services to enable the delivery of high quality Psychological Services across Barnsley

 

Based within the Barnsley IAPT Team, the selected candidate will provide a service which also includes direct patient work. This will include the supervision of more junior psychological staff along with teaching and training as required. The post holder will be expected to contribute fully to audit, evaluation and research initiatives in keeping with the post and the IAPT initiative.

 

The post holder will be professionally supported within the Psychological Health Care structure, which will compromise a large multi-disciplinary team of clinicians of different disciplines. The personal and professional development of the successful applicant is encouraged through a programme of staff development reviews. The Trust particularly welcomes applicants interested in all aspects of Clinical Governance.

 

Requirements of CBT course

 

Attend University two days per week whilst working the other three days as a therapist within a busy IAPT team, managing own caseload.

 

Attend weekly group supervision at the University and at Barnsley IAPT. Supervision involves regularly watching tapes of therapy sessions so recording of clinical practice and willingness to work through issues that are raised/reflect on own practice/take direction in group supervision is imperative.

 

Completion of a portfolio of CBT clinical practice over the year including clinical practice log, supervision logs, case studies, reflections on live practice and a reflective log.

 

The course consists of three modules. Each module requires attendance at all teaching sessions and competency within each module is closely assessed and must be passed. Fundamentals of CBT – 60 minutes OSCE, case based literature review, formulation case study and evidence held within practice portfolio. CBT for depression – treatment case study, CTSR of taped session and evidence contained within practice portfolio. CBT for anxiety - treatment case study, CTSR of taped session and evidence contained within practice portfolio. Linked to each module is the requirement to complete and pass an assessment of a live CBT session and a case study.

 

All assessed work must be passed. Failure to pass will result in failing the course and termination of employment. Academic work is assessed at post-graduate level and the expectation is that any applicant can evidence ability to work at this level. Clinical work is also monitored and closely assessed using a strict marking criteria.

 

All academic work and course related reading must be completed in personal time. This roughly equates to twenty hours per week self-directed study.

 

The training element of this role if highly challenging and requires the individual to have the capacity to learn new ways of working which can be conflicting with pre-existing professional skill-set. In addition to learning new skills it is imperative the individual shows the ability and willingness to deliver treatment for anxiety/mood disorders whilst training and, at times, before that module has been covered explicitly at University so adaptability, self-motivation and ability to learn quickly through supervision is imperative.
