Fulfil your potential in hospitals that make history:

With five world-renowned hospitals, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is full of opportunity if you are looking to develop your healthcare career.

We are an NHS Trust of approximately 14,000 people, providing care for over a million and a half patients from north west London and beyond every year. We have a rich heritage and an ambitious vision for the future of our patients and local communities.

With our partners, Imperial College London, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, we form Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre, one of 6 academic health science centres in the UK, working to ensure the rapid translation of research for better patient care and excellence in education.

We are proud of our heritage in innovation and we are early adopters of new insights in technologies, techniques and treatments for improving health.

Our surgical innovation centre, part of the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre, is renowned for being the first in the UK to take up the Da Vinci robotic programme. We are also the UK’s leading centre for bariatric surgery, carrying out procedures such as gastric sleeves, bypasses and gastric bandings. The surgical innovation centre is composed of the outpatient/diagnostic services department, the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), Paterson Ward and operating theatres.

The Surgical Innovation Centre at St Mary’s Hospital is the ideal place to develop your clinical, organisational, communication and personal skills and you will become proficient in planning, organising, prioritising and caring for both pre and post -surgical patients.

ISIC OPD/Diagnostic department provides outpatient services for Bariatric, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, General Surgery, Urology, Oncology, Maxillofacial, Physiotherapy with additional diagnostic facilities for urology, ECGs, phlebotomy and minor operations.

SAU is an assessment unit with a high turnover of patients. SAU streams predominantly acute admissions from A&E, with additional pathways for the assessment of general surgery patients referred from primary care, urgent care centres, clinics, and follow up from acute admissions. There are additional ambulatory pathways managed through SAU eg Vascular angiogram and venogram pathways which allow patients to be admitted via SAU for diagnostic vascular admissions and prevent acute surgical beds being occupied by patients having these diagnostic procedures.

The Paterson ward cares for patients for both elective and non-elective patients who have undergone laparoscopic and robotic procedures for urology, bariatric, upper GI, colorectal and general surgery.

You will receive training in nurse led discharge and you will benefit from our highly skilled, dedicated clinical practice educator who offers one to one coaching. We also offer you the chance to undertake clinical skills training, practice assessor and supervisor courses, phlebotomy, cannulation and pain management study days. We also provide regular opportunities for you to learn from our consultants and participate in teaching sessions from different specialities on our team days.
