CICU Flamingo

Practice Educator (B7) - 0.5 WTE - 5 month secondment

Excellence in education, clinical support and pastoral care.

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU Flamingo) requires an experienced nurse with a commitment to high standards of clinical and academic education. We are looking for someone with experience as a Band 6 or Band 7 who holds a BSc nursing degree, a post-registration intensive care course, a related cardiac course and a mentorship qualification. They would be keen to develop their skills in engaging and developing learners and be interested in education as a career pathway.

As a Practice Educator, you will be responsible for training current staff and recruiting and orientating new staff. You will be directly involved in academic teaching on neonatal, paediatric and cardiac intensive care degree modules, and on various “in-house” study days. Similarly, you will be involved in the provision of workshops, simulation and bedside teaching in order to facilitate clinical skills acquisition. While working within the wider CICU team, you will be sensitive to the educational needs of individuals for both enhanced support and advanced development. Given the nature of the work, it will be necessary for you to have clinical expertise and confidence regarding the care of infants and young people who have had cardiothoracic surgery and/or those who have other, complex medical needs. This will enable you to role model excellence and provide appropriate education and guidance for learners and mentors. You will liaise closely with the Lead Practice Educator and the clinical management team in order to work through challenges, recognise success and ensure a high standard of integrity, safety and clinical care.
