NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group is the statutory body responsible for commissioning healthcare services to south east London’s 1.9 million residents of the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. It operates within and is a lead partner of south east London’s developing integrated care system, which is joining up health and care services around the needs of our diverse populations.

The CCG buys services from hospitals, ambulance services and community health service providers.

NHS South East London CCG is overseen by a governing body which is responsible for making decisions about healthcare. The governing body includes GPs, nurses, a hospital doctor and other healthcare professionals and patient representatives. This is supported by Borough-Based Boards, which have delegated responsibility for commissioning local services such as GPs, mental health services and continuing healthcare for people with disabilities or who are approaching their end of life.

Some of the CCG’s key responsibilities include:

  • securing public involvement in the planning and commissioning of healthcare services
  • contributing to boroughs’ Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNA) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies led by Health and Wellbeing Boards
  • working with local authorities and other partners to improve the wellbeing of all adults and children, to deliver high quality healthcare and to address inequalities in health
  • upholding principles of good governance and carrying out its functions effectively, efficiently and economically


South East London CCG’s key priorities include:

• Providing more systematic and proactive management of chronic disease to improve health outcomes

• Empowering patients and encouraging self-care

• Integrating models of care

• Ensuring urgent care systems maximise appropriate access of care for patients

• Improving access to services.

This role is based in and supports services in Lambeth and will involve working closely with local authority colleagues in particular.The post also operates within a wider communications and engagement team that operates across south east London and it is expected that as part of this team you will work collaboratively with team colleagues in other boroughs, lending uyour expertise where appropriate and in turn calling upon support and expertise from colleagues in other boroughs and from a small specialist central team. You may be asked to travel to and potentially work from different CCG borough locations on occasion.

We are looking for an experienced communications and engagement manager to join our Lambeth based team providing maternity cover for one year.

You will have excellent writing skills and experience of delivering high-quality communications with an impact to different audiences. You will have a sound grasp of digital communications and the ability to develop relationships and deliver work across our partner organisations.

You will have strong experience in public engagement and the ability to develop and maintain productive links with community stakeholders and deliver meaningful involvement activities, as well as the capability to undertake the communications activities that support this work.

You will enjoy using your initiative, developing new ideas, and managing your own workload as part of a team. NHS experience is desirable but not essential; however you should be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the health and social care environment, and relevant experience to deliver creative communications and engagement with an impact in this complex arena.
