Biomedical Scientist (Specialist)/Entry Level BMS Histopathology

Agenda for Change Band 6 £31,365 - £37,890 / (or Annex 21 Band 6) 

37.5 hours per week

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team.  The department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidates to further develop their skills and ambition.

Ideally the successful candidate will be state registered with Health and Care Professions Council, have at least two years post registration experience in a Histopathology laboratory, have Andrology experience, Non Gynae preparation experience and hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or equivalent. Applications will also be considered from candidates who do not have the Specialist Portfolio.

Rotherham General Hospital provides an extensive range of medical and surgical specialties. This busy Histology laboratory is fully UKAS accredited and is well equipped. The laboratory provides a comprehensive diagnostic Histopathology service and currently performs approximately 15,000 histological requests, 800 non-gynaecological requests, and 600 Andrology requests per annum.

The post is based at Rotherham Hospital but the successful candidate may also benefit from working at our partner laboratory in Barnsley.

Spread over a 5-day week the successful applicant will be expected to be part of a team that provides an efficient and flexible diagnostic service.

Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated close to the Derbyshire Peak District and is within easy reach of the major cities of Sheffield and Leeds. There is a wide range of good quality housing for purchase or rent available at affordable prices in the area. Local social, cultural and sporting activities are in plentiful supply and there is a good choice of schools on both the public and private sectors. South Yorkshire is well located for easy travel to most parts of the country via good road and rail networks.

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is currently one of five Trusts involved in the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Transformation Programme. The aim is to design a Pathology Service that provides all SYB patients and clinicians with equitable access to high-quality, innovative laboratory medicine solutions that will ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients. The service will also be efficient and sustainable, encourage research and development in collaboration with Acadaemia and Industry to improve health and wealth in the region and provide rewarding jobs and career opportunities for all staff. The Transformation Programme may include the consolidation of some services. Staff will be consulted about proposals that may involve them.

The cost of undertaking a DBS disclosure will be met by the individual. The current price of a standard check is £23 and an enhanced check is £40.
