Are you a children’s nurse, looking for a challenging new experience or wanting to develop new skills within paediatric nursing? If you have been qualified for a least 1 year, having completed your preceptorship, and would like to gain experience in the community setting, then this job will appeal to you.

The Helena Specialist Nursing Team & Ryegate House respite centre, are looking for a Band 5 nurse to join their team, which provides respite, continuing care and palliative care provision in a variety of settings that includes the child own home, school or Ryegate house residential setting.

The service aim is to provide excellent clinical care and support to children suffering from complex health needs, and their families, giving opportunities for learning, and living within the community, away from the inpatient setting.

As a band 5 staff nurse working within the service you will need enthusiasm, motivation, ability to work both within a team but also autonomously, and have a commitment to providing a high standard of clinical practice and care to our patients. As such you will care for patients with a range of different health needs, which include long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, seizure management and specialist feeding via NG or gastrostomy. The team also manage paediatric palliation, within the community, and the successful candidate will be involved in working alongside our Palliative care nurse specialist.

As a registered nurse working in our service, you will also be responsible for the updating of continuing care assessments, care plans, risk assessments, and providing education and support to both parents and carers, with management & supervision from senior nursing staff. The Band 5 role will also include some management input with our Band 3 & 4 care staff, that include Assistant Practitioners & Nursing Associates.

The service benefits from Band 5 nurses who maintain professionalism, and take pride in the care they give to the patients and their families, as well as being dedicated to their own personal and professional development and the development of the service.

This post is an ideal opportunity to expand into the community setting, whilst maintaining strong links to the multidisciplinary team within the main hospital trust.
