In April 2017 NIHR Biomedical Research Centre commenced, a collaboration between University of Leicester, University of Loughborough and University Hospitals of Leicester. The BRC brings together the work of Respiratory Medicine, Cardiovascular Science, Diet, Lifestyle and Physical Activity.

Medical Education Clinical Fellow in Critical Care

Are you fed up of the constant struggle to complete WBAs? Do you want some time off the training treadmill to pursue your interests in medicine?

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Fellow (Medical Education) to our friendly and busy, soon to be brand new, Critical Care Unit at Northampton General Hospital.

This will be a 1 year post working in critical care alongside medical education related activities and development, with the possibility for extension.

This is an exciting time to join Northampton General Hospital as we develop our Academic Strategy towards University Hospital status. We are also due to move into our brand new state of the art Critical Care unit by August 2021

Alongside clinical duties a day a week will be allocated to your work within Medical Education.

The post will develop 3 key areas:

• The completion of a PG Cert in Medical Education (distance learning, funded by Medical Education)

• The development of technology enhanced learning in Anaesthetics and Critical Care

• Working within the Medical Education team at NGH to support the Trust wide implementation of the education strategy.

The Medical Education Department is currently exploring ways of incorporating Virtual reality and ‘Xperteye smart glasses’ into day to day teaching. We are also developing an e-learning educational presence Trust wide on Moodle and are well integrated with our excellent Simulation team.

Our critical care unit currently comprises 16 beds and is staffed by 10 consultants together with a team of 20 junior staff. The wider anaesthetic department has 43 Consultants along with 6 specialty doctors. Our department is dynamic, enthusiastic and fully committed to governance, development and training. As such a number of us have taken on major roles within the NHS including College examiners, an Associate Medical Director, and the Director of Medical Education.

The advertised post is open to all doctors who hold full/ limited registration with the GMC and have successfully completed foundation year 2 training who wish to gain further experience in the management of critically unwell patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. It would be desirable, but not essential, if the candidate had some anaesthetic or ICM experience but they should have evidence of an interest. No previous background in simulation or medical education is necessary, but enthusiastic applications from candidates wishing to extend their learning in simulation and medical education will be welcome.
