Respiratory Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse


We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join the Kangaroo Team and take responsibility for clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to complex, long term ventilated children and families. You will also be involved in the discharge process for these children and families.

Kangaroo ward is a brand new 9 bedded in-patient unit in the new Premier Inn Clinical Building. We have a dedicated sleep study cubicle. The focus of the team  is to facilitate a seamless patient journey and to act as a bridge between hospital and home and help children and their families prepare for a new way of living, according to the child and family’s needs.  Length of stay is between three to six months, whilst housing is assessed and a care package is devised to enable the child to be discharged back into their local community.  We also see some short stay ventilated patients for sleep studies and work in conjunction with Leopard Ward (acute respiratory ward).

To be considered for this role you must be a registered nurse with excellent paediatric clinical skills with relevant background in respiratory care. It is essential to have demonstrable experience of taking charge of a clinical unit and show qualities of a team leader and role model.

We are looking for an individual who is ready for the next move in their career and demonstrates a desire to deliver a positive patient experience, actively involved in discharge and supportive of the future developments of the service and promotes the effective flow of patients through the department.

The successful applicant will have support and opportunity to work closely with a team of Ward Managers who lead and manage other Cardiorespiratory Wards within Critical Care and Cardiorespiratory Unit.
