Paediatric Intensive Care Unit

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and one of the largest acute Trust’s in the country. Our mission is to always provide world class healthcare for our patients, through excellence in care, research, education and training.
This post is based at St Mary’s Hospital which is situated in the heart of Paddington, West London. This means we are easy accessible to major transport routes and this prime location will allow you to visit the all the capital has to offer.
The Children’s Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Care Unit forms part of a large Women and Children’s Directorate which share Paediatric and Neonatal services at the Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospitals. We have a close working with the Children’s Acute Transport Service CATS and this post hold the opportunity to join our team of retrieval specialist nurses.
We provide life-saving therapies for children and infants with primary Respiratory illnesses, Neurology and Neurosurgical care, specialist Haematology/Bone Marrow Transplants, Infectious Diseases, Allergy services, Ophthalmology, Dental; and a broad range of Medical and Surgical services, including Major Trauma, Acute Metabolic Medicine, Endocrinology and Advance Renal Services, such as, Heamafiltration and Plasmaphorsis. St Mary’s CICU has been afforded the bid as one of the dedicated centers for High Consequence Diseases in the UK. We are completely dedicated Tertiary Paediatric Referral Centre which provides complex treatment for children and families in North West London and the wider community.
The CICU had in 2020 completed a £10 million rebuild, which had increased the bed base from 8 beds to 15 beds, nearly doubling our capacity. This is an incredibly exciting time for PICU and any prospective applicants will be closely involved in the developments of the new premises.
The department benefits from a practice development team of educators and risk/audit nurses and family liaison who provide support and education to all levels of staff. As a Band 7 Clinical Educator you will have the opportunity to work closely with our Paediatric Nurse Development Team and Paediatric Site Practitioners PSP’s. The post holder will also be afforded modules in the Children’s Advanced Nurse Practitioner Programme and Non-Medical Prescribing.
The successful candidate should have a PICU qualification or equivalent, and have sound clinical skills with evidence of education and leadership abilities. Our teams are on hand to support you with your professional development.
