Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist who has a passion for palliative rehabilitation.

Thorpe Hall is a Sue Ryder hospice, based in Peterborough. We’re here for people aged 18 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease. We offer a range of support to patients and their families including inpatient care in our 20 bed hospice, a day service for those with long-term conditions and support in the community through our befriending, Hospice at Home and bereavement services.

As an Occupational Therapist at Thorpe Hall Hospice you will play a vital role in identifying life roles and activities that are meaningful to patients and planning care to address barriers to perform these activities. Some community work will be involved as you may need to visit patients homes for discharge planning purposes, otherwise this role is based on the Hospice inpatient unit

This role will suit an experienced practitioner with a broad knowledge base and experience of working in a wide variety of clinical fields who wishes to specialise in the field of palliative rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of palliative care interventions, strong communication and inter-personal skills and the ability to work well within a close multi-disciplinary team.


Essential criteria;

• Highly specialist knowledge and application of therapy assessments and interventions using complex level clinical reasoning
• Experience of evidence based practice and outcome measures
• Motivational skills and goal setting for personalised care
• An ability to work autonomously and to set own and others’ priorities
• An ability to confidently assess and manage risk in relation to therapist/therapy service performance
• Excellent advanced communication skills
• Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent qualification.
• Registration with the health care professions council.
• Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses
