Band 6 Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist to cover 15 hours per week- Permanent Contract

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is an 800 bedded acute Trust. It provides general acute services to a population of 380,000 and hyper-acute stroke, vascular and renal services to people living throughout the whole of Northamptonshire, a population of 691,952. The Trust is also a cancer centre delivering cancer services to a wider population of 880,000, the whole of Northamptonshire, and parts of Buckinghamshire.

This role is to support the existing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service. We provide outpatient and inpatient care to patients with IBD. Nurse-led face-to-face clinics are provided on site with a daily Advice Line service. Following training, the successful candidate will see in-patients on an ad hoc basis to discuss diagnosis, treatment options and give psychological support and will be required to review scripts for patients on biological therapies. The successful candidate will be supported the Lead IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist and a team of nine Consultant Gastroenterologists.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join the team to provide and promote an expert nursing service. You will need to show motivation and initiative within the clinical area delivering an effective nurse-led service for patients with IBD. The role will involve working closely with the local medical and nursing teams to ensure delivery of outstanding high quality care to this patient group. This will involve managing a caseload of patients addressing their physical, psychological and spiritual needs. The post would suit someone keen to develop specialist skills in physical assessment with an interest in IBD.

The successful candidate will ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical support and clear information. The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a seamless service to patients in line with current research and guidelines.

All suitable applicants should meet the following criteria;
• Registered Adult Nurse
• Valid NMC registration
• Minimum of 2 years post registration experience
• Experience with IBD patients desirable, but not essential
