Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital have embarked on an exciting journey to become a University Hospitals Group, serving the whole of Northamptonshire and beyond through closer alignment and partnership with University of Leicester, University of Northampton and all other University partners. University of Leicester, with Northampton and Kettering Group, is committed to enhancing the partnership between academia and the NHS in Northamptonshire. The BRC brings together the work of Respiratory Medicine, Cardiovascular Science, Diet, Lifestyle and Physical Activity.

Early last year, through a process of competitive bidding , the NGH Stroke Service was successful in being 1 of 3 sites chosen by NHSE&I to deliver a 2 year pilot of extended stroke rehabilitation, predominantly through our nationally acclaimed Community Stroke Team.

We now have 18 months of guaranteed funding (non-recurrent) to put our plans into action.

The work involves developing services to improve the long-term rehabilitation for stroke survivors in Northamptonshire.

The work proposed is varied and includes developing psychological support to our stroke survivors, developing vocational rehab, setting up a stroke helpline and looking at how best to provide rehab and care to those individuals with predominantly cognitive impairment.

You will be fully integrated into the team but this role will involve being part of this dynamic and exciting project to deliver care re-enablement and stroke rehabilitation to the stroke survivors of Northampton. You will be required to work shift patterns and some overnight care where needed on a shift basis.

There will be lots of training and development to the role and the opportunity to gain experience and skills that will take you forward in your career.

This post is funded for a year but we are hopeful that if we can show improvements to the care and rehabilitation of our stroke survivors in the hopes of continued funding.

We are open to secondments from neighbouring trusts and teams. Please get in contact to discuss further.
