Job Profile

As Senior Sister/Charge Nurse you will manage, coordinate and actively assist in the organisation of care provision within the Day Surgery Operating Department while managing a delegated team.

  • Job Location: This role is located at our main hospital site in London, W1G 6BW (Close to Regents Park & Baker Street tube stations).
  • Job Type: This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Sunday. We operate a mixed shift pattern – Earlies & Lates shifts.
  • Salary: £50,423 - £58,721 (inclusive of London Weighting), and the salary will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Key Duties

  • Provide quality planned care for patients during their perioperative phase of care by ensuring all team members deliver quality patient care by providing appropriate clinical and managerial leadership.
  • Acting as a role model and mentor to staff, applying legislation, policies and procedures correctly, as well as assisting in the allocation of work to others and participating in HR activities.
  • When required, act in the role of the scrub practitioner, undertaking all activities within that role in a professional and proficient manner, as well as promoting best evidence-based practice.
  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of others and self, encouraging team members to expand and develop their own competencies within the patient’s perioperative phase of care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and assist in the enhancement, development, introduction of services and initiatives, as well as business improvement opportunities, either via improved workforce planning or resource management.


Skills & Experience

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HPC registration.
  • Recognised Management and/or Advanced Scrub Practitioner/ODP qualification is desirable.
  • Experience of management/team leadership of a theatre team with experience in day surgery theatres.
  • Evidence of working in partnership with Consultants to explore and challenge existing practices while maintaining and enhancing services and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support and lead a team, as well as cope in sensitive and challenging situations.
