We are currently looking to recruit highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Highly Specialist Clinical/ Counselling/ Health Psychologist within our Staff Support Psychology Service based within the HR/OD Team at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust initially for a period of 12 months fixed term.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly developing Staff Support Psychology Service (set up in 2019), working closely with the Lead Health Psychologist for Staff Support and the Health and Wellbeing Team within the Organisational Development and Human Resources Directorate. The Staff Support Psychology Service is committed to enhancing the psychological wellbeing of our healthcare colleagues involved in caring for people who use our acute hospital services during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

The aim of the Staff support Psychology Service is to ensure healthcare colleagues have timely access to psychosocial interventions and that this functions within a stepped care staff support model integrating with existing hospital staff support services (e.g a TRiM SoS peer led support service, organisational development, occupational health and the health and wellbeing team) and also collaborating with, and referring into wider psychological and healthcare services within the Northamptonshire region.

The post will provide a holistic approach by undertaking clinical assessment/ screening and triage to identify an individual’s needs and then determine appropriate support services, which may involve providing an in-house psychological support service, referring staff into existing service provision within Northamptonshire (e.g. mental health, third sector, our staff support resilience hub) or working with other internal HWB support systems to support staff. The postholder will be expected to hold a small in-house clinical caseload working with organisational issues/systems impacting on staff psychological wellbeing and offer reflective space support for teams (supported by the Lead Psychologist) to manage the impact of working environment and relationships upon staff wellbeing. The Staff Support Psychology Service also offers clinical leadership and peer support teams specialist training, advice, consultation and clinical supervision to enhance psychological knowledge and skills amongst our stepped care support system and for healthcare leaders and managers to promote and build psychological wellbeing and resilience in the workforce. The postholder will be supported to work at an appropriate level to deliver indirect psychological support to teams and leaders through these mechanisms.

The successful candidate will work in a wider HWB team consisting of a Lead Health Psychologist who is the clinical lead for the Psychology service, Senior Organisational development professionals, the SoS peer support Service Lead, the occupational health and wellbeing leads, the HWB Manager and a team administrator. The successful candidate will be employed by Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and will be provided with clinical supervision, reflective practice and training to support the role with access to our programme of learning and development, CPD and professional development opportunities. Although the post is advertised as a fixed term post, there may be opportunities for this post to be extended.
