Consultant Immunologist and Allergist

Applications are invited for a Substantive Consultant Immunologist and Allergist to join our committed, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team in supporting both the immunology laboratory and clinical immunology and allergy services in Leicester. This is a replacement post, following the move of one of our Consultants to another centre. The post includes outpatient clinics in Immunology and Allergy, as well as supervision of adult immunoglobulin replacement therapy, and attendance at relevant MDTs. The clinical services are currently working towards QPIDS and IQAS accreditation. Laboratory responsibilities include reporting of laboratory results, liaison with service users and planning appropriate immunological investigation of patients. The Immunology Laboratory service forms part of UHL Blood Sciences, which is fully accredited by UKAS. The clinical and Laboratory Immunology services are both located within a fully integrated Department on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site, close to Leicester city centre. The Department is a member of the Trent Immunology and Allergy Consortium (TRIAC) network, which aims to ensure provision of high quality clinical Immunology and Allergy services across the broader region.

You are expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, research and development. You will also be required to undertake management duties and work within a multidisciplinary team.

The appointment is whole time. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.

Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists, and full GMC registration with a license to practice and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or equivalent) is a requirement.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire, and is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for Consultants.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000, an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Scheme check will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
