UHL Interventional Radiology embraces the latest imaging technology. We are a dynamic friendly multidisciplinary team 24/7providing support for trauma, vascular, renal, hepatobiliary, urology, oncology, obstetric and paediatric services.

We are proud to offer the very latest minimally invasive treatments in our interventional
suite utilising the Canon Infinix C-arm systems and our state-of-the-art 4.8 million pound
high-tech hybrid operating department with a Siemens Artis Zeego hybrid C-arm at its heart.

The Leicester Vascular Surgery Unit is one of the top performing centres in the UK. The
Vascular Limb Salvage Clinic offers faster, more efficient diagnosis and treatment and has reduced major amputations by almost 50%

The University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest teaching Trusts in the UK. It has a vision to deliver Caring at its best at 3 sites and employs over 16000 staff. Currently there is a £450 million site reconfiguration program which includes a brand new hepatobiliary and urology department. This will be completed in 2021 and includes an additional Interventional Radiology suite at Glenfield. It will utilise Canon’s brand new Alphenix Sky + C-arm which is capable of Coned beam CT and Siemens Artis multipurpose equipment.

UHL IR encourages extended roles and we have radiographers performing change of
nephrostomy catheters, barium swallows and hysterosalpingograms. We are working
towards training radiographers to perform cystograms, feeding tube changes and NG tube insertion.

Previous Interventional Radiology experience is desirable, but not essential as full training and support will be provided.

The core service hours are 08.30 – 17.00, Monday – Friday. There is in an on call
commitment which works out to 3 or 4 on calls per month. This post would involve working at 2 out of the 3 sites: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital. Preferences can be discussed at interview. We have a day case unit at each site and look after a variety of inpatients.
