We are seeking to recruit a Senior Scientist to perform research and development in the Microbiology Department at Freeman Hospital for a fixed term of 18 months.

The post holder will be responsible for the introduction of new assays under the direction of the department R&D Lead, from initial set up, evaluation and validation, to incorporation into clinical use with appropriate SOPs and quality control processes for the benefit of patients and service users.

Working as a Senior R&D Scientist in the Microbiology and Virology Laboratory, the post holder will play a key role in development and research, primarily in the field of molecular diagnostics with the aim of delivering high quality service provision to meet clinical demands. The post holder will actively contribute to quality improvements within the laboratory by improving patient care through advanced diagnostics.

Essential requirements for the post include a BSc (Hons) degree in relevant science subject (or equivalent qualification) and a MSc, FIBMS, MPhil, PhD or equivalent level of knowledge, the post holder will require extensive experience and in depth knowledge of Molecular Diagnostic Work and experience in Research and Development. A proven ability to work independently with minimum direction as well as evidence of Continuous Professional Development is essential, as are effective computer and keyboard skills.

Due to the nature of the tasks in question, Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration is not essential.

Full Time 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
