The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) in Newcastle is one of the country’s leading cancer treatment facilities located in a purpose built centre at Freeman Hospital, providing radiotherapy services to the population of the North East.

From 01-04-21 the existing Oncology services in North Cumbria will be joining with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) to become one service, delivering oncology out-patient appointments, radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a single NUTH provision.

The Radiotherapy Department in Newcastle benefits from state of the art equipment which includes 2 Novalis Truebeam STX linacs with stereotactic capability, 5 Varian TrueBeam linacs, and 2 Tomotherapy units.

ThePre-treatmentImaging section comprises 2 Siemens CT scanners with ProSoma virtual simulation and Raystation planning system, and a dedicated MRI scanner. The provision of this MRI scanner in the department has enabled us to be at the forefront of the development of the use of MRI within radiotherapy planning and MRI only planning pathways.

The new Radiotherapy Department in North Cumbria, based in a purpose built Oncology Centre at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, will be operational from July 2021 and will be similarly equipped with 2 Varian TrueBeam linacs, a Siemens CT scanner and access to a Siemens MRI scanner for planning purposes.

NCCC is committed to delivering a high quality service, maintaining the highest specification equipment and contributing to radiotherapy research and development.

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a full time Pre-Treatment Clinical Specialist Therapeutic Radiographer within Radiotherapy at NCCC. The successful postholder will be expected to provide expertise and leadership in the pre-treatment sections, including scheduling within NCCC with a particular focus in North Cumbria.

The successful postholder will be required to provide this service at the Cumberland Infirmary in person and remotely as required.

Applications are invited from well-motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic, radiographers with significant pre- treatment imaging and treatment experience at a senior level. It is expected that the candidate has proven comprehensive IGRT skills. The post-holder will support the management of a section within the department ensuring the highest quality of technical practice, patient care and ensure workload targets are achieved. The post-holder will be required to work in imaging and scheduling dependent on experience and departmental needs. The post holder will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands.
