Consultant in Medical Oncology

Full Time Consultant in Medical Oncology: Lung (including Mesothelioma) and Gynae tumour sites.

The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary with some clinics and MDTs at Glenfield Hospital and Leicester General Hospital or on MS Teams, but provides advice across the whole Trust and for the community. UHL has a comprehensive trials unit and delivers all the up to date cutting edge treatments.

This post will give the candidate an excellent opportunity to be part of both Thoracic Oncology and Gynae Oncology here in Leicester. Thoracic Oncology is renowned nationally as one of leading centre for the treatment of lung cancers. Leicester thoracic oncology is regarded as a centre of excellence. Glenfield Hospital boasts a very established respiratory research department and respiratory physicians who are nationally renowned. Thoracic surgery for lung cancer and mesothelioma has shown one of the best outcomes in the country and a very busy and intense portfolio of clinical trials in oncology. The thoracic oncologists are nationally renowned and development and research is embedded in every day work.

The successful candidate will participate in combined Gynaecology clinics with our surgical colleagues, improve the service with the proposed introduction of nurse led PARP inhibitor clinics and contribute to our expanding research portfolio

The Oncology Department offers a comprehensive service to these groups of patients including chemotherapy, targeted agents, complex IMRT and stereotactic treatments. The treatment of all cancers is becoming increasingly complex with an increase in the options of radiotherapy and systemic therapies available.
