The Defence Primary Healthcare (Dental), require a professional, organised and dedicated Band 4 Dental Nurse to join their friendly hardworking dental team at Evelyn Woods Road, Aldershot, Hampshire.

Our successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated Dental Nurse who will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care within Defence Primary Healthcare (Dental), andbe a senior dental nurse overseeing and guiding those in a junior grade.

Main duties of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the surgeries are prepared appropriately, complying with current regulations.
  • Responsibility for ordering consumables for the Dental Centre.
  • Casting impressions for study models.
  • Organising specialist clinics, where required, including coordinating diaries and booking the clinic.
  • Deputising in the absence of the Practice Manger.
  • Working as an assistant Equipment Care Manager for the practice.
  • Contributing to Healthcare Governance Assurance Self-Assessment (eCAF).
  • Performing additional duties in line with your Band 4 status and additional dental qualifications. This can include provision of intra- and extra-oral radiography, IPC lead role, OHE role and any other roles attributed to your additional dental qualification.
  • Carrying out and recording daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies.
  • Ensuring a daily test radiograph is taken and processed with all findings reported in accordance with extant policies and signed off by a clinician or trained individual.
  • Recording accurate dental charting for each patient as required by the dentist.
  • Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting and reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing appropriate advice when required. This may include recognising and interpreting behaviours, especially those associated with anxious patients and dealing with them accordingly.
  • There is an occasional requirement whereby the successful candidate can “opt-in” to participate in the out-of-hours emergency cover with an additional basic salary supplement.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

The successful candidate must hold & provide evidence of the following when requested:

  • National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.
  • General Dental Council (GDC) registration
  • Immunity to Hepatitis B.
  • Must have one of the following 5 post registration qualifications: Oral Health Education Certificate; Dental Radiography Certificate; Orthodontic Dental Nursing certificate; Dental Nursing Sedation certificate; Special Care Dental Nursing certificate.

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the GDC are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.
