Solent NHS Trust are delighted to have been successful in their bid to implement a Mental Health in Schools Teams (MHST’s) within Southampton City. There are currently 4 MHSTs in Southampton offering an almost city-wide coverage for this new and exciting addition of mental health provision for children and young people.

Solent NHS Trust are currently recruiting a qualified CBT Therapist to join the service. (Please note this is not a training post).

The development of these services are in collaboration with NHS England and the Department for Education, following on from the 2017 Green Paper Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision. This is a roll out of the work to improve access to mental health care for young people set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.

The clinical team structure of the MHST consists of EMHP Trainees, qualified EMHPs, EMHP Supervisors, CBT Trainees and CBT Therapists (this post). The team also comprises of the Team Manager, Clinical leads, and Team Coordinator, offering strong leadership and governance structures within the team.

We are looking for candidates who hold a high intensity CBT Qualification to offer specialist knowledge and practice skills in delivering CBT evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems, and offer consultations and training to local schools and colleges, in particular the specialist schools and pupil referral unit within the city.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.
