To provide Pharmacy Technician support at the Vaccination site in Greater Manchester on all aspects of the Covid vaccine and Covid vaccination.

Duties are carried out under the control or direct supervision of a pharmacist or where appropriate Principal or Chief Technician


To provide Pharmacy Technician to the Pharmacy team at the Vaccination site in Greater Manchester on all aspects of the Covid vaccine and Covid vaccination.
To support the team in answering queries or issues in relation to the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine, including storage, drawing up, stock, counter-indications or clinical concerns.
Under the guidance of a Pharmacist work with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to review existing and develop knowledge in relation to the vaccine.
Responsible for replenishing stock to appropriate levels, optimising supply
To issue vaccines as required to Pods based on patient throughput, appropriately recording stock levels on local and national systems
Identify and highlight stock issues or discrepancies  to the Pharmacist on duty.
Incorporate any national guidance into treatment guidelines, protocols and local patient pathways.
To ensure that they work within appropriate clinical and governance arrangements as set out in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) standards for services,
To support the development and maintenance of Vaccination policy and strategy.
To liaise with the Programme Manager and relevant members of the Management team in the delivery of operational aspects of Vaccination centres.
Be a point of contact for external agencies for issues relating to Covid vaccination.
Support training and information-sharing for all grades of staff on Covid vaccination management and distribution.
Act as point of contact for clinical queries relating to the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Provide a supporting Pharmacy Technician service to the Vaccination Site in accordance with professional, departmental and trust policies. This will include (under supervision):

  • Compiling a drug history if needed
  • Reviewing prescribed medication to ensure safe and effective use.
  • Review and update of protocols depending on clinical response, results of investigations and adverse effects.
  • Interpreting and requesting clinical tests to monitor and make recommendations to improve effectiveness of drug therapy.
  • Undertake therapeutic drug monitoring for specific medicines.
  • Developing evidence based treatment protocols for use across the Trust where appropriate.
  • Facilitate implementation of local and national guidelines where appropriate.
    Liaise with medical and nursing staff to ensure medication is prescribed and administered correctly in accordance with policy, to maximise patient safety.
