The Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre Theatre/Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is seeking a motivated and committed individual to champion the role of Band 4 Theatre Assistant Practitioner. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for professional development and career progression

The Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre is located on the Princess Royal Hospital Site in Hayward’s Heath and is a purpose built elective orthopaedic centre, which opened in 2006 and is now part of the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. We carry out approximately 6,500 procedures per year and undertake minor, intermediate and complex orthopaedic work. We pride ourselves on having an MRSA free centre, excellent patient satisfaction results and ensure our clinical outcomes are closely monitored. In brief the SOTC Theatre/PACU department comprises of four operating theatres, a day case facility and 31 inpatient beds including a 4 bedded Level 1, together with a suite of consulting rooms.

You will hold, or be working towards, a Level 5 Foundation Degree (or NARIC equivalent). Successful appointees will be supported to achieve/top up to foundation degree as required. The foundation degree qualification offers opportunities to access professional training or transition to Nurse Associate roles if this is what you wish to do. Once trained and competency assessed, you will be expected to work independently, within defined parameters of practice, under direction without direct supervision, with the potential to work across various disciplines to implement programmes of care and therapies in order to support the whole team. You will act as role model for others to aspire to, promoting best practice and the delivery of high quality, patient centred care.

Working in Theatre and PACU you will become expert in the patient perioperative pathway through admission , intraoperative and scrubbing , post-operative and discharge ensuring excellent patient care is maintained throughout the patients pathway.

The diversity of the PACU/Theatre profile makes this a stimulating and engaging environment to work in. The Department is supported by a dedicated and established multidisciplinary team. The orthopaedic team comprises of committed and supportive Theatre Team Leads, Consultant Surgeons, and other skilled practitioners.. You will be working towards completion of related Theatre/PACU Band 4 competencies. Working collaboratively ensures that our patients are supported and cared for to a standard that ensures excellent patient experience and clinical outcomes.

This role will be subject to a TUPE transfer to Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on 1st April as part of this merger.

Salaries for substantive posts will be offered to successful candidates in alignment with the NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions. All our substantive colleagues will also receive an annual appraisal. For substantive colleagues appointed after 1 April 2019, this guides their progression through the salary steps. Please note this does not apply to Bank only applicants.
