Cardiology Department

Musgrove Park Hospital is the largest DGH in the Somerset offering services to a population of over 330,000. It has 700 beds and employs 4500 staff. It is situated in the county town of Taunton which has easy access to beautiful countryside and the coast.

The Cardiology Department presently has nine Consultant Cardiologists and offers a full range of diagnostics and invasive procedures including echocardiography services, device implant and follow-up, angiography and primary PCI.

Healthcare scientist/Cardiac Physiologist – Specialist in Echocardiography Band 7

The echocardiography team currently consists of 9 fully accredited members of staff and 1 echo trainee. We achieved department BSE accreditation in 2019 and are an accredited NSHCS cardiac training centre. We train STPs and PTPs within the department and have a strong emphasis on structured training, reproducible diagnostic imaging and accurate reports. We are proud to offer excellent service standards including a well- developed physiologist led contrast service and physiologist led non pharmacological stress echo. We are in the process of starting Scientist/Physiologist led: valve clinics; transoesphageal scans and dobutamine stress echo. We anticipate that the successful applicant of this role will join the team and train in Physiologist/Scientist led TOE. We have high quality, state of the art machines (including the GE E95 and Philips Epiq) with 4D probes and associated software. The team endeavour to drive change and service improvement. We operate in an open and welcoming environment with full support from our Consultants. Personal development is encouraged.

Our echocardiography section is seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, highly specialised echocardiographer to join our friendly team which provides transthoracic, ACHD/paediatric echo, stress echo, contrast and TOE services. The team provides training for students and registrars.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate clinical expertise in transthoracic echocardiography. It would be desirable for the applicant to be competent in complex ECHO, however, for the right candidate, training can be given on commencement of the post. The applicant will need to prove experience of working within a team to provide a patient focused service. Time management skills are essential and evidence of previous managerial roles/ responsibilities that would be beneficial to the department would be advantageous.

BSc in Clinical Physiology or MSc in Clinical Science (cardiac science) or equivalent, BSE accreditation and RCCP or AHCS/HCPC registration are mandatory.
