Associate Director of Strategy and Business Planning

Band 8D - Maternity cover for maximum of 12 months

As Associate Director of Strategy and Business Planning, you will ensure that the organisation has a clear future direction and robust, integrated planning processes to ensure successful implementation of agreed strategies and plans.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategy & Transformation, you will lead the Business Planning and Commissioning Team and key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide vision, leadership and strategic development expertise to ensure that the organisation is at the forefront of best practice and thinking in its approach to the successful delivery of the 2025 Strategy, Embracing Change: Proud to Care.
  • Lead the annual internal business planning processes ensuring the Trust continues to develop excellence in systems, processes and people.
  • Represent the Trust in the development and delivery of System operational and strategic planning approaches.
  • Lead and support the development of major strategic business cases, including the development of the Trust’s Strategic Capital Programme.
  • Provision of support for Trust Divisions and corporate functions to develop and deliver local strategies, operational plans and policies that support the overall Trust strategy.
  • Responsibility for delivering the strategic planning framework for the Trust, ensuring translation of the Board strategy at clinical service level and monitoring of implementation of strategic and business plans.
  • Responsible for ensuring systems and processes are in place for effective strategy delivery, supporting development of strategic capital development business cases
  • Inform, interpret and present complex planning information and prepare briefing papers to support effective decision-making at the Trust Board, Trust Senior Leadership Team and Governors Strategy Group, as required.
  • Have a lead role in supporting the development and implementation of the system wide Healthier Together programme through Trust strategic and business implementation plans and representing the Trust in Healthier Together processes as required.
  • Position the Trust to be an effective partner in the local health community through your personal leadership contribution and through oversight of the health of the Trust’s key partnerships

To succeed, you will need to understand the business dynamics of managing a high performing NHS Trust, have experience of working within the acute sector or similar environment and be adept at producing stretching but realistic business plans. You will be a self-starter, used to taking the initiative, excel at effective partnership working and building constructive relationships with clinical and managerial leads. This is a high profile role, and it is essential that you bring the drive, strategic planning awareness and communication skills necessary to work at the highest level with internal and external stakeholders.
