The Breast Surgery Unit at Northampton General Hospital is looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to enhance the current team and assist with maintaining cancer treatment targets. This is a new post which is planned as a full-time appointment but applicants wishing to work part-time are encouraged to apply. We are seeking successful candidate to enhance and progress the current oncoplastic services provided to the patients of Northamptonshire. The post will be for 12 months in the first instance.

The postholder will work closely with the breast multidisciplinary team to provide diagnosis and treatment for the Trust’s breast patients. The post holder will also be expected to attend and participate in the breast MDT clinical and management meetings.

The Breast Unit is based at Northampton General Hospital site, and is equipped with excellent imaging for diagnostic and interventional procedures. The current Breast Unit is a close knit multi-skill mix team of three Consultant Breast Surgeons, two Consultant Oncologists, two consultant Breast Pathologists, one consultant Breast Radiologist, one Radiography Consultant Practitioner and two medical Radiology Physicians working to give a first class service using evidence based protocols and ensuring implementation of policies and guidelines originating from NICE and East Midlands Cancer Alliance. Free flap reconstruction is provided jointly with the Plastic Surgery team at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
