We are seeking a Healthcare Scientist to lead our Health Technology Assessment (HTA) service, which includes an External Assessment Centre for the NICE Medical Technologies Evaluation Programme. The HTA service is part of the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Directorate, which has an established record in health technology development, research and assessment to improve patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for line management of a multi-disciplinary team and will support the management of external customer and supplier contracts. They will be responsible for managing the delivery of a portfolio of projects and for liaising with stakeholders, including NICE. The post-holder will receive supported from an administrator and from the EAC Centre Director.

The successful candidate must have extensive experience in the assessment of novel health technologies, including formal critical appraisal of scientific evidence and its presentation in reports and at committees. They will have expertise in the application of health technology assessment, including assessing clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness, in med-tech, diagnostic and digital technologies and familiarity with its applications in other technologies.

It is desirable for candidates to have experience of establishing clinical research and clinical audit projects, including at national scale, to collect evidence to address areas of uncertainty in guidance and practice. An academic record of accomplishment in these fields is desirable, ideally allied with strong numeric and analytical skills, and a commitment to reproducible research and open science. Experience of supervising and managing a small team is desirable.

Full Time 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
