Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

We currently have more than 3,200 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

An opportunity has arisen for a well-motivated and enthusiastic audiologist to join our friendly team based at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and in community clinics and schools across the region. We are a large, busy and expanding paediatric audio vestibular department offering a comprehensive range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiological and vestibular services for children from birth to nineteen across Liverpool, Sefton and West Lancashire.

The successful candidate will join a hardworking and committed team of audio vestibular physicians, audiologists, a nurse specialist and audiometricians. This post will provide excellent opportunities to enhance your experience in all aspects of the paediatric audio vestibular spectrum. There is ample scope to develop your interest and progress yourself with CPD opportunities including peer review processes, attending academic conferences and meetings, and co-authoring publications.

The audiology department moved to our new state of the art Children’s Health Park in October 2015 and we work closely with colleagues across the Trust and in the community including ENT, neurology, oncology, endocrinology, rheumatology, general and community paediatrics and genetics, amongst many others. We also have the benefit of a clinical psychologist/music therapist in our team for multidisciplinary management of complex children.

Alder Hey is a national tertiary and quaternary service for vestibular assessment and management in children, accepting referrals from across the country. The department has a diagnostic facility in operation including provision for VNG, VEMPs and vHITs, in a dedicated vestibular laboratory and gait analysis facility in the hospital. We have a well-established regional bone anchored implant programme in conjunction with our ENT colleagues and we are expanding to include middle ear implants in the coming year.

Alder Hey paediatric audio vestibular department is leading the way for assessment of hearing in children with programmable intracranial shunts, paediatric ototoxicity monitoring and paediatric vestibular disorders assessment and management. There is an active research and academic portfolio of the department with a significant national and international presence led by the honorary professor in the department.
