We are currently looking to recruit experienced and enthusiastic porters to join the department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The Role:

Supporting the transfer of patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, trolley across the Trusts Wards and Department.Collection and delivery of clinical and non-clinical items/good/ equipment across the Trust.Cleaning of patient transfer equipment e.g. trolleys & stretchers/wheelchair used for transfers following use occasional collection and disposal of items of refuse/waste linen etc across the Trust

Cleaning of patient transfer equipment e.g. trolleys & stretchers/wheelchair used for transfers following use operating and use of equipment once trained

Skills/Responsibilities :

  • Be willing and able to work in all areas of the Hospital – clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Sign up and undertake the Trust Lateral Flow test programme.
  • Have basic knowledge of IPC & the role cleaning plays in a heath care setting is essential.
  • Have an understanding of the role of a Hospital Porter and be able to display good manual handling techniques
  • Constantly demonstrate Hands, Face & Space
  • Supporting the transfer of patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, trolley across the Trusts Wards and Department.
  • Collection and delivery of clinical and non-clinical items/good/ equipment across the Trust.
  • Cleaning of patient transfer equipment e.g. trolleys & stretchers/wheelchair used for transfers following use
  • Occasional collection and disposal of items of refuse/waste linen etc across the Trust
  • Cleaning of patient transfer equipment e.g. trolleys & stretchers/wheelchair used for transfers following use
  • Operating and use of equipment once trained
  • Supporting the collection and delivery & return of Linen to agreed volumes and frequencies across the Trust Wards and Departments.
  • Supporting the collection and delivery of incoming and internal posts to agree frequencies across the Trust Wards and Departments
  • Supporting the collection and disposal of all waste/refuse stream to agreed frequencies across the Trusts wards and Departments
  • There will be a degree of pushing & pulling, lifting, bending, stretching and carrying of items in all areas of Portering Services
  • There will be a considerable amount of walking and time standing
  • There will be occasions where staff may have to work outside in poor weather conditions
  • Wearing of a mask whilst at work is mandatory. PPE must be worn when advised.
  • Staff must be able to speak clearly and be understood - read and understand English, be able to take instruction.
  • Staff must adopt and work with our guiding principles CARE.
