SPECIALTY DOCTOR - RADIOLOGIST WITH INTEREST IN BREAST

We are a large teaching hospital with Major Trauma centre, Regional neurosciences centre, Regional Oncology centre, Regional upper GI cancer surgery, Regional complex pelvic surgery and local lower GI surgery.

We are looking for a new team member to join us! To help support Breast and general radiology as part of these tertiary referral and major trauma centre developments at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post has arisen for a Specialty Doctor in Clinical Radiology at LTHTR, with a specific interest in Breast and General Radiology, which is now needed to cover some of the identified service requirements arising as a result of expansion within in the Department.

Therefore experience in Breast radiology is essential, as would experience of General, including Trauma, radiology.

Duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Specialty Doctor in a similar sized Radiology department in the United Kingdom; with the majority of the appointee’s time being spent on clinical duties, but with a special focus on assisting in the radiology provision for the symptomatic breast unit, which is well equipped with 2 Hologic mammography units and 2 Siemens ultrasound machines and working alongside 3 specialist breast radiologists and a team of specialist breast radiographers.

The successful candidate will assist in providing services at both Royal Preston and Chorley & South Ribble Hospitals.

The new post holder may be expected to participate in the existing general on-call rota to be staffed at a 1 in 16 [consultant]; or 1 in 9 [registrar] frequency.

There are also substantial opportunities for development or maintenance of various subspecialist interests – dependent on the preference of the candidate.

The post will involve 10 programmed activities of imaging support (8.0 DCCs plus an indicative 2.0 SPAs). We would also consider suitable candidates who may wish to work less than full time.

Any person who is unable to work full-time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post and if appointed the job plan will be discussed on a personal basis in discussion with colleagues.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are - Standard DBS check £30.20 and Enhanced DBS check £48.20. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.

Please note if you are successful in obtaining a position that requires a DBS check but later withdrawn your application you maybe required to reimburse Lancashire Teaching Hospitals the cost of the DBS.
