Locum Consultant in Gynaecology and Obstetrics



The University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) invite applications for 1 whole-time (11PA) locum Obstetrics and Gynaecology consultant for 6 months. This post and has arisen to cover maternity leave for 6 months to start as soon as possible from January 2021.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at UHL is of high quality with a proven track record of service innovation for the benefit of patients and is supported by the Trust objectives and strategy to improve the delivery of planned and emergency obstetric and gynaecological care across a diverse population. The locum consultant post will have a focus on the investigation and treatment of women with general and urgent gynaecological problems both in elective and emergency settings as well as supporting the Obstetric services within antenatal care, maternity assessment, delivery suite and elective caesarean sections. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to the Diagnostic hysteroscopy and Ambulatory Services, performing outpatient procedures (diagnostic hysteroscopy, hysteroscopic polypectomy (Myosure) and Ablation). The successful applicant will also contribute to covering general gynaecology clinical duties for colleagues on leave.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register and have a certificate of completion of specialist training or equivalent. They must be competent to be on the emergency on call rota for gynaecology and to perform routine elective and common emergency surgery. Competencies in transvaginal USS and outpatient hysteroscopy are essential and in colposcopy would be an advantage. The antenatal care provided will be for general obstetrics and where the locum has the experience will support the prematurity prevention team.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be undertaken.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
