Individual Placement and Support Employment Specialist (Maternity Cover)

Salary:Band 5 £24,907 - £30,615 pa (dependent on experience)

Location: Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

Post Ref: 457-20-077-CR

An exciting opportunity has arisen, to join Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) as an Individual Placement and Support Employment Specialist.

In 2019 South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System (SYB ICS), successfully bid to NHSE for increased funding for the development and expansion of mental health employment support utilising the evidence based employment approach Individual Placement and Support (IPS).

SYB ICS is a partnership of health and care providers across the region, with the aim to provide seamless patient care and serves a population of 1.5 million across five distinct geographical localities: Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

In 2017, NHS England noted the potential to commission services across ICSs and STPs to increase the potential for a collaborative approach, integrating service provision across Mental Health Trusts, Voluntary Sector Organisations and Local Authorities. Within the SYB ICS footprint the current landscape of employment support spans multiple providers (statutory and non-statutory) with different employability schemes and funding streams. However, there is limited support available for people with serious mental illness (SMI) which this development seeks to address.

This collaborative development involves NHS and third sector partner South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA). The post holder will be embedded and co-located in Recovery South, Community Mental Health Team within SHSC.

The IPS employment model is internationally recognised, based on over 20 years of research, as the most effective way to support people with mental health problems to gain and retain paid employment.

As an IPS Employment Specialist you will be working with people who have a severe mental illness and support them into competitive employment and then enabling them to retain that employment.

As an IPS Employment Specialist you will:

•Seek paid employment opportunities for clients who are currently involved with the working age adult community mental health services based within one of the NHS Trusts in the SYB ICS.
•Develop opportunities with local employers, supporting them as well as the client, to ensure the right person is in the right job.
•Support clients with job searching, completing CVs and application forms and interview preparation.
•Alongside clients, liaise and signpost to a range of employment and training programmes within the local area, to include Job Centre Plus.
•Develop your knowledge and networks of employment related support services and inclusive employers within the local area.
•Establish ongoing monitoring and support systems for clients once employment is secured
•Review work placements to ensure that this is meeting both clients and employer’s needs.
•Offer support to employers and clients with any problems that may arise.
•Promote disability awareness among employers to ensure a positive integration of our clients into the workforce.
Successful candidates will be dynamic and highly motivated, with excellent communication skills that enable you to work/engage effectively with a wide range of agencies and employers, clients and sometimes their families.

Innovation, determination and ability to influence assertively are key to the success of this role. You will apply consistently high standards, have knowledge of relevant legislation, and be willing to attend training as required.

The successful candidate needs to demonstrate a strong commitment to employment and social inclusion.

Supervision and support will be offered on a regular basis with ongoing training and development opportunities relevant to the post.

Our values are fundamental to ensuring people are at the heart of everything we do, our values are:
