The Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) is a specialist mental health trust providing a range of services to people across Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton. Our vision is to improve health and well-being for people of all ages across the Black Country.


We are excited to be advertising this newly developed Speech and Language Therapy post to assist us with the provision of clinical assessment and treatment with both individuals and groups within a multi-disciplinary team based at the Gerry Simon Clinic which is a low secure forensic unit situated in West Bromwich. The unit is for males aged 18-70 who have learning disabilities, challenging behaviours and complex mental health needs. They have been diverted or transferred from the criminal justice system. We are looking for a clinician interested in developing communication support for inpatients with the aim of reducing hospital stays and facilitating safe community transitions.

In order to achieve meaningful, safe outcomes and progress for patients within the forensic inpatient pathway Speech and Language Therapy support is vital through the delivery of communication assessment, diagnosis and advice, contributing to shared-formulations as part of the multi-disciplinary team and promoting good communication environments. Support, training, development and supervision will be available from a Speech and Language Therapy Advanced Practitioner specialising in Forensics.
