Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

In October 2019, we became the first trust to be rated ‘outstanding’ in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led). We are committed to providing a positive, supportive experience for all of our staff.

Royal Papworth Hospital is a cardiothoracic (Heart and Lung ) specialist hospital. The Hospital is Cambridge Biomedical Campus, serving patients from the East of England and across the UK.

Switchboard is the first point of contact to the hospital and the telecommunication services. 

We operate a 24/7 state of the art switchboard and telecoms system, providing telephone assistance to patients and visitors, along with internal communications for our staff members. 

The role requires connecting calls to the callers requirements, utilising the appropriate recourses i.e. extensions, bleeps, long range pagers, home numbers and mobiles. To respond to all emergency calls, alarms and contact appropriate personnel.

An essential criterion of the job involves the ability to work shifts, including Nights, weekends and Bank holidays. To answer incoming calls in a speedy and professional manner.

The successful candidate should be able to work unsupervised, and have experience of a PC based console.

Training will be provided using the Arc attendant console on our Cisco platform.
