Occupational Therapy Support Worker - Medicine/Surgery

Band 2/3 depending on experience

Permanent - Full Time (37.5 hours - per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and reliable Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to work in our Medical and Surgical

The successful candidate will work alongside, and under the supervision of the Occupational Therapists in providing individual and structured intervention for patients with a variety of conditions. This will involve the assessment of the patients on the ward and in their own home.

We are looking for an individual who is keen to develop their skills and has experience as a therapy or healthcare assistant; including some knowledge/experience of acute Occupational Therapy.

Work will include:-

  • Carrying out initial interviews and treatment plans devised by the Occupational Therapists
  • Assisting the therapist in assessment and treatment of patients with physical and/or cognitive impairment
  • Prescription/delivery of equipment and demonstration of it use as agreed by the Occupational Therapist
  • Administrative tasks including statistical inputting
  • Equipment ordering, cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • Communicating with other health professional, patients and their carers
  • Carrying out joint home visits with the Occupational Therapist

To ensure patient flow and effective discharge, we provide a 7-day service to the wards assessing, treating and discharging patients and therefore the successful candidate will be rostered to cover regular weekends and bank holidays

A full valid driving licence and access to a car, to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
