This is an exciting career opportunity for a highly motivated and suitably experienced nurse to join the team of Cardiac Surgery Nurse Practitioners' at St Thomas's Hospital.

This post will be ward and clinic based with some clinical administration to deliver advanced practice nursing to a defined group of pre and post-operative elective and non-elective cardiac surgery patients. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, you will be instrumental in the daily management of patients and defining the scope and practice of the role.

The post holder will act as an expert clinical resource, facilitating the pathway of this specific group of patients. You will be an integral part of the team, assessing patients and formulating a plan of care on the ward round, from admission to discharge including clerking urgent inpatients, prescribing medication, referring to allied health professionals and writing electronic discharge letters. This also includes running nurse led pre-assessment and developing nurse led follow up clinics. Additionally you will be required to maintain and develop further your theoretical knowledge and physical examination skills.

Applicants are invited to apply with the relevant clinical experience in looking after patients undergoing cardiac surgery and their aftercare, with evidence of advanced assessment skills and completion or in process of completing non-medical prescribing at Master's level. Management and leadership skills, the ability to be self-directed, work autonomously and within a team is essential for this role. A commitment to the advancement of cardiac surgery care, together with knowledge and expertise in change management are also required.

Applicants with relevant experience, without advanced assessment skills and non-medical prescribing, who demonstrate an interest in completing these courses will be considered for a training post on an Annex U contract.
