Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Clinical Neuro psychologist

Job Reference: J146-A-20-1032

Ludlow Street Healthcare Group Ltd

Lead / Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Clinical Neuropsychologist (AFC 8c-d equivalent dependent on experience)

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified clinical psychologist with at least four years post-doctoral experience in services for people living with dementia, Huntington’s disease and personality change secondary to acquired brain injury. The people we support, and treat, often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms that include behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an experienced, innovative and values driven person to join our senior clinical team.

The successful candidate will lead and deliver psychological input into St Peter’s Hospital in Langstone, Newport. The service provides integrated care and treatment for people with dementia and other complex neuropsychiatric conditions, with associated challenging behaviour. The post holder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including senior nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Physiotherapists. The post is supported by a 1.0 WTE assistant psychologist but it is envisaged that further departmental expansion is imminent, that would be managed by the post holder. You will have a key role in informing, directing and providing effective, evidence based care pathways within the service.

St Peters Hospital is increasingly recognised as a centre of excellence and best practice. We are rigorous in following professional, clinical and policy guidance in order to support high quality care. We take a recovery and person-centred perspective to all of our work and are committed to the current agenda around reducing restrictive practice and improving relationally focused care within mental health services, including services for people with dementia. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support, training and consultancy to our staff teams and inform and direct service development, alongside colleagues in the senior management team.

Our organisation places a strong emphasis and value on psychological services and will invest in your ongoing development. You will be part of a large clinical services department across our group with access to clinical and forensic psychologist and AHP colleagues. Research and networking interests are supported and encouraged. We have good links with local clinical training courses and academic centres: the post holder will be encouraged to supervise trainee clinical psychologists on placement.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who meet BPS requirements for appointment to a consultant grade position, but are also keen to hear from people who are looking for a developmental opportunity to progress to consultant grade, where additional support will be provided on the developmental pathway. You may already hold approved clinician status. Applicants without such status will be supported and encouraged to work towards portfolio submission to support an application to register as an approved clinician if that is an area of development interest.

To discuss the role further please contact Dr Andrew Hider Clinical Director - Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist 07970037784 or Dr. Kumi Pillay 01633 401300
